For some reason I’ve been watching a lot of gay movies lately. Thursday, I saw À cause d’un garçon (You’ll Get Over It); This morning there was Ya lyublu tebya (You I Love) and this afternoon I saw Juste une question d’amour (Just a question of love). The last movie is probably the best out of the three, which is pretty good considering it’s one of those made for TV movies. It just annoys me that there aren’t a lot of good gay movies out there. Most of them are crap and it’s as if they were written by monkies and they hired models instead of actors. I wouldn’t mind the eye candy if they backed it up with good acting and a story line.
Obviously there are good ones out there but the ones that I can think of at the moment are Get Real and Krámpack (Nico & Dani). They’re both movies I saw a long time ago… I think I saw Get Real back in high school… lol. I probably loved those movies because I could relate. I’m a lot older now but I think they’re still good movies. You guys should watch both if you haven’t done so already… I know I have Krámpack on DVD if anyone wants to borrow but I still have to get Get Real. sigh.
Now there is another gay movie I’m looking forward to seeing. It’s Ang Lee’s new film, called Brokeback Mountain. I’ve seen bits here and there about the movie before but I didn’t know it was a gay movie till yesterday. It’s set in the 1960s and it’s about these two gay cowboys who had to hide their relationship. Jake Gyllenhaal is in it so I’m really excited because I loved him since October Sky (another great movie worth watching). On a side note, his sister, Maggie, is great too.

You can try viewing the trailer here. Note I got it to work in by downloading it using IE, but I had some trouble with FireFox. Also the clip is just from a segment on CNN… I don’t think you can see the official trailer just yet. After watcing the trailer, I just can’t get that damn movie out of my mind. Maybe I should by the book as well… Now I was reading another article about the movie last night and this is what was in the first paragraph:
“The director of the much-hyped gay Western “Brokeback Mountain” has warned gay fans that the film may well fall short of the sex scenes they are hoping for”
Now I think it’s going to be great regardless of the lack of sex. Geez it’s as if there’s an expectation for every gay movie to have nudity and sex. Now I just hope Ang Lee doesn’t screw this one up like he did with The Hulk… if only he could do something as good as Sense and Sensibility again. ::crosses fingers::
Now, Al Lowe was telling me a few days ago that I should join the PNO Short Movie Awards. I’m glad Al Lowe thinks I can actually win the competition. Yeah maybe I can win if I put a ton of nudity in it… then again Al Lowe told me some of the judges are lesbians.. damn! Well I really want to join this competition now but I don’t think this year would be a good idea. I still don’t have a decent camera to work with and I’m still a n00b at filming and editing. As for the storyline, I already have something brewing in my head but I’m not gonna talk about it at all. Next year perhaps so watch out world!

What about.. “But I’m a Cheerleader” and “Latter Days”… Those are great movies.
I’ve been wamting to see Niico and Dani… But never really felt like reading the sub-titles.
I see so many gay movies every time I go to blockbuster. But they all look so stupid that I just skip them. lol.
I’ll have to remember to look for Brokeback Mountian when it comes out.

i didn’t really like Latter Days and But i’m a Cheerleader
sorry. i guess we all have different tastes.
you’re right about blockbuster. my rule of thumb is if there’s a half naked guy on the cover, the movie is bound to be stupid.
you should definitely try and watch Nico and Dani!!! not feeling like reading the subtitles isn’t an excuse! but trust me, you could get by w/o the subtitles if you’ve had a couple years of español.
